Shanna is an oral historian at UC Berkeley's Oral History Center, where she worked since 2013. She works on a wide variety of projects and specializes in arts and letters, food and beverage culture, community and identity, and environmental history, and directs the Oral History Center’s educational initiatives. She is currently serves on the Oral History Association’s Council, a member-elected leadership position, and the editorial board for the Oral History Review journal.
She is the author of A Good Drink: In Pursuit of Sustainable Spirits and Bay Area Cocktails: A History of Culture, Community and Craft. Her writing has appeared in Imbibe, Life & Thyme, PUNCH, Eater, Alta, Epicurious, The San Francisco Chronicle, the Oral History Review and other publications.
